Baltic Sea Analytics

For 6 month we worked on seafloor pressure from demersal trawls, seines and dredges in the Baltic Sea between 2009 and 20016 to support our partner WWF Sweden with decision making results to protect nature and environment. The goal was to better understand bottom trawling impact, water pollution and light intensity on biodiversity of plants and marine animals in the Baltic Sea. The basic underlying data sets was an outcome of the ICES WGFBIT (Working Group on Fisheries Benthic Impact and Trade-offs) and public available here. Within this project we combined AIS data and scientific results to gain a holistic view on seafloor pressure in the Baltic Sea and to understand better the pressure of marine protected areas in the Baltic Sea.
